The Cave

Penthouse with ancient Greek concept

“This penthouse in Kolkata seeks
inspiration from ancient Greece.”

- Devyani Jayakar,

At Kham Consultants, we believe that architecture should elevate human potential. When a young finance professional approached us to design his penthouse around Eudaimonia—the ancient Greek concept of achieving one’s full potential —we crafted a spatial journey that fosters clarity, focus, and fulfillment.

Our design for this 30th-floor penthouse in Kolkata embodies Eudaimonia through a seamless progression of spaces. The journey begins at the entrance corridor, leading through the living area and branching into two distinct zones—one culminating in a private bedroom, the other in a study, a space for deep focus and reflection.

To achieve this flow, the entrance corridor was deliberately constricted like a cave so as to draw focus inwards to the dramatic double height living hall beyond with a largerthan life terracotta mural. Minimalism was key. Each space is stark yet intentional, with strong focal points and no distractions. In crafting this penthouse, we transformed Eudaimonia from a philosophical ideal into a tangible, immersive experience.
