Urban Rejuvenation

Kolkata is genetically a colonial metropolis and Park Street, the fine dining and entertainment hub of the city represents this unique flavour. Park Street used to be British Indian elegance personified with its stately mansions, institutions and cemeteries and even today needs to be understood as the most prestigious destination in Kolkata, not a mere transportation bypass.

A rejuvenation program requires the restoration of public memory and meaningful reuse, not only architectural details of heritage structures. Keeping this view in mind a non-profit organization Society for Park Street Rejuvenation- Kolkata, SPARK was created with Monica Khosla Bhargava as President.

Since 2009 SPARK has been successfully organising a Winter Carnival in Park Street bringing it alight with a multitude of colours, rhythms and flavours. In all these years SPARK has undertaken various rejuvenation activities such as renovation of Allen Park, preparation of a project report for the restoration of South Park Street Cemetery, socio-economic study of Park Street with students of IIM Joka, ETH Studio Basel Switzerland and Jadavpur University, cleanliness drive, heritage walks on Park Street, inter-school heritage fest and awareness seminars.

Green Architecture

Architecture finds itself at a crossroads, at this day and age. Building materials and new construction, along with the operation and maintenance of buildings, account for a significant sum of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.Green architecture is a sustainable method of green building design: it is design and construction with the environment in mind.

Keeping climate, comfort, energy saving material and low emission materials in consideration, Kham Consultants has moved beyond building codes and minimum requirements to reform overall structure. We have used solar panels, vertical gardens, efficient ventilation systems and even the building location as an energy saving resource with the local environment.
